Isn't it strange how our mood can be affected by the seasons, or how the weather is on a particular day? This is the second week of summer in New Zealand and I feel really enthusiastic, and as the saying goes, "Full of the joys of spring" - or as they say in this country "A box of fluffy ducks!"

Why is this? Why do we let the weather decide the way we feel? Do you find that coming up to summer time, you have a bounce in your step, and begin to feel very positive about things? As winter draws close do you hear yourself say "I'm not looking forward to winter, I hate the cold weather." Mind you, perhaps you are someone who loves the winter and dislikes the hot weather!

What a funny lot we are!

When you stop to think about it, we really shouldn't blame the weather for how we feel should we? You do have a choice in the matter. You have a choice in everything you do, or don't do. Your attitude determines the way you feel. You can make the choice to be positive or negative.

Do you find it difficult to be positive? A way that may help you is to find a positive affirmation that really relates to the way you want to be.

I believe in the power of positive affirmations. I have used them myself for a number of years, and have found that they work.

They have to be said as often as possible, and should be spoken as though you are already the way you want to be. One of my favorites is "I have faith in my ability." This one will help your confidence, I know it helped mine. Another favorite is "I can do this." It's nice, short, and easy to remember.

When I hear myself thinking "I'll never do that," and say to myself "I can do this" I get an immediate boost of confidence, and, hey, what do you know, I can do it! If you want to, you can make up your own. Are you fed up because you can't stop eating all that yummy chocolate cake? What about "I no longer crave chocolate cake."

Do you sometimes feel low for no particular reason? Try words such as "I feel wonderful today." Say them with feeling. Really mean them, and see how much better you feel.

Write your affirmation down and put it where you can see it. On the computer, on the fridge, in your wallet, on the bathroom mirror, and every time you see it, say it! It shoould be said often throughout the day, first thing in the morning, and before you go to sleep at night. Get into the routine of repeating it whenever you can.

As they begin to work, you will feel more confident and positive about yourself. It's your attitude that makes them work. Believe in yourself, that you can change the way you are. Each time you hear those doubts creep into your mind, replace them with a positive thought.

Know that when you choose to do something, if you believe you can and stay true to this belief, then you can! When you really want to change believe in your heart you can change, keep this thought and keep going!

I wish you a peaceful and joyous time at Christmas and a happy new year.

I have some exciting news! I am writing a book that I am sure will help you. I have been working on it for quite a few months - good things take time don't they! I shall keep you informed as to how it is coming along. Watch this space!
