Anxiety - Tell It To Get Lost

Anxiety is often caused by fear of the unknown. We are scared to do something even though we have not done it before, fear grips us, and we feel dread at the thought of doing it.

Can you remember an occasion when you first felt the fear, but decided to pluck up courage and do it anyway?

Maybe it was jumping off the side of the pool into the water. Your friends were jumping in, and you really wanted to jump in too. When you finally plucked up the courage and hit the water, how did it feel? Did you swim back to the side, climb out so that you could do it again?

When you overcome fear and do something once, the second time doesn't feel as difficult. Familiarity takes away the fear and helps your confidence grow.

If you think about it, it was the thought of jumping into the water that caused the anxiety, and when you finally plucked up the courage and jumped in, the fear no longer existed. In fact you probably wondered why you were scared in the first place!

This is what happens throughout life. We limit our capabilities by letting fear take control. Fear is a thought, it exists only in our mind. No fearful thought, no fear. Think about that for a moment.

The next time you hear yourself saying you're scared of doing something you really want to do, hear yourself saying something positive, tell yourself you can't wait to give it a go.

Replace your anxiety with positive words. Basically,

tell the fear to get lost!
